As I continue preparing for the school year, I’m continually on the lookout for other’s great ideas.
One area I knew I wanted to put some effort into was spelling practice. We’ve always just copied and say-spell-say (said?) the words every day, and quite frankly, it’s boooring!

The Homeschool Classroom is a site that I visit often, and even when I have no intention of putting something into practice, I still enjoy reading about what others are doing. It’s often full of encouraging words and sometimes points out the not-so-glamorous struggles homeschooling often entails!
I hope the boys enjoy their spelling drills with some of these new ideas!!

ReplyDeleteThose are good suggestions except I never allowed glitter in my house. When I buy greeting cards I never buy the ones with glitter. We also don't have magnetic letters(choking hazard). I like the phonics cards at Rod and Staff($15) or homemade ones with poster board(index cards don't last as long). I like that Abeka has spelling dictation sentences. My children also liked writing the words(4 times if in 4th grade) then writing their own sentences. We didn't have spelling tests. I see that a classical curriculum uses Rod and Staff spelling but they use the next grade level for each grade(the 5th grade book for 4th grade). For math and english they use the same grade level books(Rod and Staff) the child is in.-Taryn
ReplyDeleteI had an African Grey Parrot many years back and due to my situation had to find a new home for him. Interestingly enough, the parrot went to a family that was homeschooling. The parrot could talk and was an avid learner, so I thought it was a great idea of theirs to have him join their classroom, and family!
